Growing Hope in the Desert

About AeroZona

AeroZona was founded with a simple but powerful vision: to ensure that everyone in La Paz County, AZ, has access to fresh, healthy, and locally grown food.

Right now, our community is both a desert and a food desert. Most produce must travel hundreds of miles before reaching local families, arriving less fresh and often at higher costs. At the same time, water scarcity and extreme climate conditions make traditional farming difficult.

We believe it doesn’t have to be this way.

Where We Are Today

We’re in the early stages of development—laying the groundwork for La Paz County’s first aeroponic farm. That means:

  • Securing land and building our first facility
  • Installing aeroponic towers that grow crops with 90% less water than soil farming
  • Sourcing renewable energy solutions to power our operations sustainably
  • Raising startup funds to make it all possible

This is just the beginning—but the seeds are planted.

Our Vision for La Paz County

We see a future where:

  • Fresh produce is grown locally at multiple locations throughout the county and available year-round, reducing reliance on long supply chains.
  • 20% of every harvest is donated to the food banks and senior centers, ensuring our most vulnerable neighbors are cared for.
  • Families, schools, and youth programs can learn and participate in sustainable farming through education and training.
  • AeroZona becomes a hub for food security, resilience, and innovation in the desert.

Why It Matters

By reimagining how food can be grown in arid climates, AeroZona is working to turn La Paz County into a model of resilience—proving that communities facing water scarcity and food insecurity can thrive with the right solutions.

We’re not just growing food. We’re growing community, health, and hope.

Meet our founder

AeroZona was founded by Marieke McArthur, a social impact entrepreneur driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food—no matter where they live. After years of working in sustainability and community development, Marieke turned her attention to her own community in La Paz County, Arizona, where residents face both extreme desert conditions and limited access to nutritious produce.

Her vision for AeroZona is rooted in resilience and equity: a solar-powered, low-water aeroponic farm network that can grow fresh greens and vegetables year-round while donating a portion of every harvest to local food banks and senior centers. Marieke brings together her passion for climate solutions, food justice, and entrepreneurship to build a farm that not only feeds people but also inspires hope for sustainable farming in the desert.
